The professional training (school-to-work programme) Introduction to Agroecology 2025/26 is a pilot course offered within the School of Agroecology, designed to help young professionals in the agrarian sector grasp the core principles of agroecology. It responds to a concrete need: to support and promote sustainable agriculture projects. These specialized technical training pathways are aimed at all actors in the agroecological sector, and particularly at students of Technical Agricultural Institutes. Through them, the course seeks to train a new generation of professionals — agricultural experts capable of steering the ecological transition through the techniques of agroecology.
Goal
Guarantee accessible and practical knowledge on agroecological principles for specialising students.

Implemented at local high agrarian high school “Istituto Agrario Silvio D’Acquisto”, the 12 month project is supported by Unione Buddhista Italiana.
Learning to farm with the living systems around us
The School of Agroecology started from local experience: students training to become agricultural technicians, farmers, and consultants learn mainly within conventional models. The people who’ll spend their careers helping agriculture adapt to a changing climate rarely get much chance to explore regenerative or ecological approaches while they’re still studying.
Working alongside Agricultural Institutes, this project it runs hands-on sessions that bring agroecology into the classroom. The course Introduction to Agroecology is meant as a starting point — a chance for students and young people already working in the sector to get to grips with the basics of ecological farming and see what these methods actually look like in the field.
It isn’t a replacement for what schools already teach. It’s more of a companion to it: a space to ask questions, get your hands dirty, and think about where farming is heading, together with the people who’ll be doing the work.
Our flagship course, Introduction to Agroecology, helps young professionals in the agrarian sector grasp the core principles of ecological farming. It’s aimed at everyone active in the field, and especially at students of Technical Agricultural Institutes — the future agricultural experts who will steer the sector through the environmental, climate, and economic changes already transforming it.

The future of Agroecology
The Introduction to Agroecology offers a way to train students and equip them with principles able to tackle several of the most common challenges facing farms today by working with the farm as a ecosystem. The students learnt about holistic ways to contrast:
- Labour shortages
- Soil fertility problems
- Pest and weed infestations
- High production costs
- Constraints linked to organic certification
